Velasquez, Christine » Home

Hello, and welcome to my class!

About Me:

My name is Christine Velasquez, and I'm entering my twenty-first year of teaching and my tenth year at Akin's High School.   I look forward to working with both my students and parents/guardians during the 2017-2018 school year!

I am a native Austinite and proud graduate of the AISD school district, attending Pease Elementary, Bedicheck Middle School and Crockett High School.  I graduated from St. Edward's University with a Bachelors degree in Social Studies Education and in 2008 received my Master's degree in Bilingual Education from the University of Texas at Austin.  Prior to coming to Akin's, I taught at W.B. Travis High School for 10 years.  I began teaching ESL Social studies courses in 2000 at Travis HS.  I have been at Akins since 2007 and continue to teach ESL social studies courses here at Akin's today as well as support the EL program.

My passion has been to work with students learning a second language and finding ways to improve instruction in the ELL classroom that moves students towards their goals as well as ours.  My greatest reward as a teacher has been to see my students learn, grow, graduate,  and go on to college and careers!

Please feel free to call or e-mail me should you have questions or need assistance. Have a great year, Eagles!
