Taking dual credit courses through Austin Community College while in high school is a big step, with great rewards!
Dual credit courses give students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit from the same course! Before you get started, here are some important things to know:
- Tuition is free for up to 36 college credit hours. Most dual credit courses are 3 hours, so that's 12 college courses for free!
- While tuition is free, students are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks, or paying for "first day" materials by the stated deadline. Students are also responsible for their own transportation to the ACC campus where their course is held (if the course is not distance learning).
- Students should meet with their academy counselor first to find out if they have room in their schedule for ACC courses, if a student plans to take ACC courses during the school day.
- Students are expected to work on the application and registration steps independently, and to contact the ACC Student Help Desk at 512-223-HELP or www.austincc.edu/help, if the student needs assistance with an application or registration step.
