Principles of Dance 1
- This course is designed for individuals with a desire to learn dance theory, technique, and the art of various forms of dance. This course is an introductory course to dance and can serve as prep for the Varsity dance team if that is of interest. Students enrolled in Dance 1 will receive a Fine Arts Credit. This class is a yearlong course.
Principles of Dance II,III,IIII
- This course is designed for individuals with a desire to continue their education in dance theory, technique, and the art of various forms of dance. This course is an advanced course to dance and can serve as prep for the Varsity dance team if that is of interest. Students enrolled in Dance 2-4 will receive a Fine Arts credit. This class is a yearlong course.
- Cardio-respiratory fitness, flexibility, and coordination through continuous rhythmical movements. This course will introduce aerobic dance as an enjoyable form of exercise and promote healthy lifestyles. Classes will consist of injury prevention education, muscle groups, and/or workouts that are designed for all fitness levels (beginner, intermediate, and advance). Various workout sessions will consist of one of more of the following forms of exercise: Floor Aerobics, Step aerobics, Interval Training, strength training, Kickboxing, Yoga, Pilates and basic dance.
Sparkling Sapphires Junior Varsity Dance Team
The Sparkling Sapphires are a competitive Junior Varsity Dance team at Akins High School. The purpose of this organization is to prepare students at Akins High School for the Varsity Dance Team. Sapphires have the opportunity to perform and participate at school and community functions, volunteer at community events, and develop strong leadership skills. This team teaches all dancers to learn to work within a group for common goals, learn to accept and fulfill responsibilities, strive for high academic standards, develop loyalty and school spirit, and develop self-confidence, and self-discipline through the development of dance technique.

Diamond Dazzlers Varsity Dance Team
The Diamond Dazzlers are a competitive varsity dance team at Akins High School in Austin, TX. The Diamond Dazzlers were established in 2000 by Mrs. Tonya Kallfelz. Tonya Kallfelz is a former Texas State Strutter and the founder of the organization and all of it's values and expectations which are still in place today. Tonya Kallfelz was the Diamond Dazzler Director from 2000-2012.
The Diamond Dazzlers have won 2 national titles in 2003 and 2006. The team performs at all Varsity Football games, school Pep Rallies, Select Basketball games, Competitions, Spring Show and many community events through out the year. The purpose of this organization is to give students at Akins High School an opportunity to, perform at school and community events throughout the year, to render service to the school, be participants at various school and community functions, develop leadership skills, develop physically, mentally, and morally, the character of each team member. This team teaches all dancers to learn to work within a group for common goals, learn to accept and fulfill responsibilities, strive for high academic standards, develop loyalty and school spirit, and develop self-confidence, and self-discipline through the development of dance technique.
The Diamond Dazzlers practice Monday-Friday at 7:30AM and meet for 4th and 8th period. Try out information can be found on the try out page! Dare To Dream Hip Hop Team
DTD hip hop is going on it's 2nd year on the Akins Campus. This team is under the direction of Mr. Daniel Broxton, a former Akins High School graduate of 2013. DTD performs at many events on and off campus as well as creating and putting on their 1st Hip Hop Spring Show in May of 2015. This team meets every B day during 8th period and has regularly scheduled after school rehearsals.
In order to be a member of this team, you must be a disciplined, hardworking, artistic individual ready to commit to the team’s practice schedule, performances and competition days. The hip hop team functions like any competing organization on this campus. This team is open to 9th-12th graders and runs year round.
