Welcome to Akins High School.
Back in the day, I received both my Bachelor and Master's degrees from The Ohio State University. My Bachelor Degree is in Social Studies Education and my Master's Degree is in Political Science. I have had the privilege of meeting many government leaders and individuals that have had an impact in our country's history and in creating government policies.
For the 2018-2019 school year, I will be teaching Senior U. S. Government, AP U.S. History and AP U.S. Government. The AP courses are college level and the students will experience high rigor instruction with high expectations. Both courses will provide the student with academic lessons that will prepare them for the AP exams that are held in the spring. Passage of these exams will earn the student college credit so it is imperative to learn the various skills and information throughout the school year in order to be successful on the exam.

Besides preparing for the AP exam, the state of Texas requires students to pass the End of Course (EOC) exam for U.S. History. AP U. S. History will provide the necessary information needed to be prepared for success on the EOC exam. This exam also takes place in the spring.

AP Government and U.S. Government are senior level courses and students will develop their understanding of how our government operates. By applying multiple project based assignments, students will also become familiar on ways they can be an active participant in the formation of our government policies. It is an exciting year to teach these courses.

I look forward to working with the students and parents during this school year. Please feel free to contact me by email or by calling my room phone.
