The Akins Business program is growing every year and offers opportunities to learn about the business world in both the classroom and in our community. Students that study business can apply their knowledge in a multitude of ways.
Students may study business to prepare them to work immediately after graduation from high school. Akins is proud to partner with A+ Federal Credit Union with a fully operational branch located on our campus. Akins business students can apply to serve as interns working part time at the Credit Union while going to school. Interns learn and experience how credit unions function while gaining valuable financial experience.
Some students study business to learn the basics of entrepreneurship so they can start they own business. Our business program sponsors a campus based BPA club (Business Professionals of America) that competes at regional, state and national conferences in more than 90 competitive events. BPA prepares students to succeed and assesses real world business skills and problem solving abilities in finance, management, IT and computer applications.
Other students study business education to prepare for higher education. Our business program gives students opportunities to visit and explore at top business programs with annual visits to some of the largest and most distinguished business schools in the country including, the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas and the McCoy School of Business Administration at Texas State University.
