STAAR Testing Information

Akins Eagles,

We are starting the STAAR testing season.  We will continue to follow district and CDC guidelines regarding health protocols to ensure a safe testing environment for all.  In order to keep students and staff as safe as possible we will limit the number of students testing each day based on the students last name. For example, on April the 6th we will be administering the STAAR English 1 test to students with last names starting with A-E only. Testing will begin promptly at 9am each day.

Below you will find answers to many of your questions to ensure your student is prepared on their testing day(s).  If you have further questions after reviewing the FAQ's below and the attached testing calendars, please feel free to contact us at 512-841-9900 or you can email Mr. Lancaster, Administrator in charge of testing at bradley.lancaster@austinsid.org. Click on the calendars on the right side for more information.  Also, you can click at the bottom to download the calendars.

What happens if my student does not take the STAAR test(s) this school year?

For high school students, TEA is not lawfully authorized to waive graduation requirements. Graduating SENIORS must meet assessment graduation requirements. Prior to graduation students must have passed STAAR end-of-course (EOC) assessments, scored high enough on a substitute assessment (e.g., SAT, ACT, TSI), OR met the requirements of an individual graduation committee. All other students (9th, 10th & 11th grade) will be missing an opportunity to meet assessment graduation requirements. Make up sessions for the STAAR exam(s) are given each June and December prior to graduation.

What will my student need to bring on test day(s)?

A fully charged AISD issued Chromebook.  We will provide the rest!

Does my student have to come in-person in order take STAAR test?

Yes, the state requires students test in person.

What is Akins doing to ensure a safe testing environment for my student?

Screening students upon entry to campus, temperature checks, masks are mandatory, social distancing, hand sanitizer, air scrubbers, gloves available upon request and daily deep cleaning of testing rooms.

Can my student leave after completing the test?

Yes, students can leave campus to continue remote learning OR they may report to in person classes for the remainder of the school day.
