October 9th, 2020

On Monday, October 12th, we are excited to welcome our 11th grade students to join the 9th & 10th graders into our Pods/Learning groups at Akins Early College High School. 11th grade students who wish to continue to do Remote Learning from home can continue to do so. Seniors will remain remote while we continue the phase-in process.  The phase-in process of our 9th, 10th and 11th graders will continue throughout the week of Oct. 12th as long as we can stay under 25% capacity including staff. When 11th graders arrive on campus on Monday morning, they will be placed in a classroom that is not their advisory. Student placement will be based on their arrival. Students will continue online learning in that one room and will not rotate classes.  Please remember the following:

*Masks must be worn at all times.(Students may unmask to eat in their classroom behind a shield.)

*All students need to download and complete the Austin ISD mobile app for screening purposes. The app must be filled out everyday for students who come to school.

*Health Screening stations do not open until 8:30 am.

No matter which learning environment you have chosen, remote or learning groups, the entire Akins Eagle Family is dedicated to the success of our students.

 September 17, 2020

Good afternoon, Akins Eagles!

We hope you are doing well and that you and your family are safe and healthy during this time.

In our continued effort to keep lines of communication open with you we wanted to share the latest information about this school year.

Last week, AISD sent out a survey to parents/guardians regarding reopening plans for October 5th.  Below, we have provided you with information about Akins ECHS’s reopening plan in order for you to make an informed decision about having your student continue online/remote learning at home OR physically returning to Akins ECHS on Mon., Oct. 5th.(See Phase in plan below)   As always, the safety and well-being of staff, students and community members will remain our top priority as we begin to phase-in staff and students.

All students will continue to follow the Akins Virtual Bell Schedule regardless of in-person or remote learning.

Akins ECHS In-Person Plan:

  • Students will enter the building through an assigned (same everyday) health screening station every day and have their temperature taken and asked a series of Covid 19 screening questions.
  • After a successful screening, students will enter and exit the building through the same place at Akins everyday.
  • Students will remain in their ADVISORY classroom with the same teacher and students everyday.
  • Each classroom will be equipped with hand sanitizer, gloves, masks, desk shields and students will be placed 6 feet apart to allow for social distancing.
  • All students are required to wear masks all day (students may remove masks only while eating lunch at their desk).
  • Students will not leave their assigned classroom except to use the restroom.
  • Students will not be allowed to leave the campus for lunch.  Students may bring their breakfast and lunch or eat the campus-provided meals each day.
  • Drop off lunches including parent drop off, Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Favor, etc. will NOT be allowed.
  • Students must bring their own water. Water fountains will not be available.
  • If parents come to pick up a student, parents will be met by a staff member outside the building and your child will be sent out to you. (In order to cut down on cross contamination, and for the safety of our students and staff we are not allowing visitors inside the building.)

Akins Remote Learning Plan:

  • Students continue remote/online learning at home following their schedule currently in place.

Phase In:

October 5th - October 9th:  9th graders who want to return to campus (graduating year 2024)

October 13th- October 16th- Adding 10th graders who want to return to campus (2023)

October 19th-October 23rd- Adding 11th graders who want to return to campus (2022)

October 26th-October 30th- Adding 12th graders who want to return to campus (2021)

Information for students returning in-person:

-Students who have a temperature of 100 or more and/or who do not pass the screening questions will need to be picked up by their parents immediately. These students will be quarantined away from other students and staff in a staging area until they are picked up by a parent or guardian. These students will not be allowed to ride the bus home and must be picked up.

-Any student or staff who shows COVID 19 symptoms or have close contact with family members or friends who have COVID 19 will be required to quarantine for 10 days or provide a negative COVID 19 test in order to return sooner.

-All parent meetings will be held with staff virtually or over the phone.

The survey we are referring to was sent to your email last week. You will need your student’s ID number to take the survey. The survey is a bit confusing offering remote, in-person, and a hybrid model, two of those options are what is described above. Akins ECHS does not offer a hybrid model at this time. If you need to change your survey information or have questions about the survey please contact survey@austinisd.org.
