Hello! My name is Mr. Alvarez and I teach World Geography at Akins High School. I'm originally from Los Angeles, CA, but moved away to receive my B.A. in Social Studies from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. I'm very excited to meet students face-to-face and get the school year started.

As a hobby, I've been heavily involved in music programs throughout my academic career. I've played euphonium for 12 years and have performed in multiple venues across the United States. Some notable performances include the New Year's Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, the Drum Corps International World Championships in Indiana, or the Winter Guard International Winds Finals in Ohio. Music is a great passion of mine and I hold the entirety of fine arts very dear to my heart.

Through music, I discovered my passion for teaching. I've assisted several high school bands and assisted directors in teaching music. Seeing the growth of my students as performers made me realize that helping students was what I wanted to pursue. Despite my love for the arts, I chose to receive my certification in my favorite subject right behind band: Social Studies.
