I earned my M.A. in English – Creative Writing from the University of Texas at El Paso where I also taught Freshman Composition for three years. I have taught subjects such as Dual-Credit English, World History, and AVID for 21 years both in El Paso and Austin and this is my sixth year as a Life Skills Teaching Assistant at Akins.
Watching students grow beyond their own expectations is one reason why I became a teacher and it is something I see at Akins every day, particularly in Life Skills. Our Life Skills students welcomed me to Akins and invited me to see the world as they do. The world can seem exciting, magical, scary, confusing, and wonderful -- sometimes all at once. I am proud to say that I have never left school because every year I encounter and learn from extraordinary students and colleagues who keep me coming back for more. My favorite activity is spending time with my son, a proud Akins Eagle from the Class of '21.
