Welcome to the CTE STEM Academy Biomedical Science Engineering. This Academy uses the nationally curriculum from PLTW (Project Lead The Way) Biomedical Sciences. The program consists in a series of courses that focuses in real-world situations addressing prevention, diagnostic, and treating diseases or disorders through the analysis of DNA and proteins and the application of the medical and molecular biology techniques (gel electrophoresis, cell culture, amplification of DNA, barcoding, blotting, DNA sequencing, bioinformatics, biochemistry analysis, blood typing, urinalysis, ELISA immunology, and more). The program also offers the certification (BACE, Biotechnician Assistant Credentialing Exam) as lab assistant. This certification is an industry-recognized exam that assesses core knowledge and lab skills identify by industry. The series of courses are PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science, PLTW Human Body Systems, PLTW Medical Interventions, and Biomedical Practicum STEM (High Research Initiative, a dual credit course) supported by The University of Texas.
