Welcome! I'm glad you're here.
About me: I received my Bachelor's of Science and Arts in Chemistry with a Minor in Spanish from the beautiful University of Texas here in Austin. I have always had an appreciation for numbers and patterns, especially sharing that fascination and beauty with others. In university, I was lucky enough to study a range of disciplines, including biology, social work, and international relations, before ultimately choosing to pursue chemistry. After graduation, I realized that while learning chemistry in college had been exciting, working in a chemistry lab wasn't the same. However, I knew that chemistry was just one of a many things I was interested in, and I found myself relieved to be chasing a new dream.
Unsure of my next adventure, I began to tutor chemistry and math. It didn't take me long to realize that showing others why math and science is so fascinating was the part of learning that I loved. That fall, I started a position as a Teacher Assistant, and 2 years later found myself a giddy first-year teacher here at Akins Early College High School teaching Algebra 2 and Geometry.
My first year did not end as expected, and I was robbed of the last 3 months in the classroom with my first ever group of students. But I quickly discovered a home here at Akins. I am lucky to work with the most innovative and creative community of students, staff, and families. This year is not starting the way I want it to, but this is how it has to be right now to keep us all safe. A lot of things are uncertain at the moment, but being a part of the Akins community makes me feel a bit safer, and I hope you do too. We are weathering this storm together, and I am here to support you and your family in the ways that I can.
I can't wait to meeting you soon (on Zoom)! And when it is safe, in the classroom.
