Getting To Know Me
Hello! My name is Becky Lego and this is my first year as a proud Akins Eagle!!! I am so excited to be apart of this amazing campus and thrilled to have the opportunity to interact with the students, families and other teachers at this school!
A little bit about me professionally: I have been an educator for 15 years and I have taught in four different districts. I have experience teaching all levels of math from 6th grade through pre-calculus (although Geometry has always been my favorite). I went to school at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico (GO AGGIES!!!!), and received my bachelors degree in Secondary Math Education. I started my career in 2004 with Austin ISD teaching at Mendez middle school. Since them I have taught 3 total years at the middle school level and 13 total years at the high school level. I received my Masters degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University in 2015 and hope to one day be an assistant principal in charge of a math department at a high school.
A little bit about me personally: I have been married for 9 years to my wife Jessica and we have a precious two and a half year old daughter named Mackenzie. In my spare time I LOVE going to women's basketball events. My wife and I are season ticket holders for both the UT women's basketball team as well and the Dallas Wings (WNBA team). I enjoy playing sports, especially basketball and softball. I also love to read, and can usually be found during my lunch time reading whatever jewel I have recently discovered.
A little bit about me as a teacher: I am all about student success. Akins has a standards based grading system that is right in line with my philosophy of teaching because it gives students multiple opportunities to get a concept right. I love it when a student that was formally struggling with a concept gets it and shows me that they get it and I enjoy being able to reward them by updating their grade to reflect that. I love interacting with my students both in the classroom and at school events, or even at the local HEB if they catch me shopping. I want my kids to know that I care about them, that I want them to succeed and that I will do anything in my power to help them reach their goals both in my classroom as well as in life. I LOVE BEING A TEACHER!!!!!!
