Register for AP Exams

It's time to register for AP exams. Students and parents will have until 5:00 PM on Thursday, 3/15/19 to register for AP Exams. After this time, all new exam orders will be charged a $10 per exam late registration fee in addition to the exam fee.

The link above provides information about the 2019-2020 Course Selections for each Academy's pathways, including endorsements. Each student must graduate with an endorsement at the end of 4 years. (An endorsement is a series of Career & Technology Education courses.)

Early College High School

Starting in the 2019-2020 school year, Akins High School will become an Early College High School. Participating students get the opportunity to earned an Associate Degree in General Studies before they graduate from High School. (Click above for more information.)

Akins High School is ranked as "Best High Schools" by U.S. News & World Report

Akins High School is ranked 226th within Texas. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® course work and exams. The AP® participation rate at Akins High School is 39 percent. The student body makeup is 52 percent male and 48 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 89 percent. Akins High School is 1 of 19 high schools in the Austin Independent School District. Akins girls basketball team follows a new Routt to Class 6A playoffs

Shae Routt tried to warn her new teammates at Akins. She tried to tell them that the initial girls basketball practices would involve few basketballs and a whole lot of conditioning drills. She tried, too, to describe the coaching style of her mother, Erica, a former standout at the University of Texas who arrived at Akins before this season after spending two years at Reagan.

Akins High School students need $200,000 for trip of a lifetime to learn music in LA

AUSTIN (KXAN) — It’s the opportunity of a lifetime for music students at an Austin high school, but they’ll need help with fundraising efforts to pay for their spring trip to southern California.

The trip, expected to cost around $200,000 in all, will take Akins High School guitar, orchestra and choir students to Los Angeles. Students are paying what they can, but each will be responsible for about $1,100, director of orchestras and classical guitar Paul Crockett said.
