Welcome back for a wonderful year here at Akins! I am excited to be your Social Worker and wanted to update you all on Student Support Services (SSS) activities.
This year we have four terrific interns from UT- School of Social Work. They are Abby, Audrey, Caitlin, and Meagan. They will be here throughout the school year and on varies days throughout the week. Please make them feel welcome when you see them on campus.
This semester, SSS will be offering groups for our students on the following topics:
1. Emotions Management Group
2. Transition/Support Group for 9th graders Group
3. Transition/Support Group for repeating 9th graders Group
4. Life Skills Group (job hunting tips, interviewing, and budget info.)
5. Anger Management Group
6. Grief Group
7. LGBTQ Support Group
8. Peer Relations Group (for bullied youth)
9. Family Relations Group
10. Dating/Healthy Romantic Relationships Group
11. Self-Esteem/ Body Image/ Eating Disorders Group
12. Depression/Anxiety Group
Outside agencies will also provide groups in the following areas:
1. Substance Use (Phoenix House)
2. Domestic Violence – separate groups for boys and girls (Safe Place)
3. Pregnancy and Parenting Groups (Rose Coleman)
Other groups may be offered as the semester and year progresses. Information will be sent out as those develop.
