Background:
APEX is funded by the ACE Austin/21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC). 21st CCLC is a direct initiative of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and is funded by federal, state, and local governments. Each school that has been determined to meet Title One criteria is eligible for 21st CCLC funding, but in Austin, only 35 of the schools have received grant money. Most schools have an on-site coordinator to organize afterschool programs.

Q: Is there a fee to join APEX?
A: No, APEX is absolutely free!
Q: How does my child sign up for APEX?
A: Just fill out and sign the APEX registration form. Return the forms to Ms. Florman in Room 146 or in her mailbox. If students want to participate in APEX, they need to be registered!
Q: Is there transportation available after school?
A: YES there is! Your child or children who participate in APEX will be able to ride late buses home! If late buses do not serve your area, APEX can provide free bus passes on Capital Metro Buses. We just want to make it easy for everyone so that as many students can participate in APEX.
Q: Why is it called APEX?
A: The mascot for Akins High School is the eagle. When an eagle is in flight and in search of food or new territory, an eagle reaches its APEX when it is at its highest point in the sky. We want every student at Akins High School to emulate the eagle, to push themselves to new heights, to explore the world of possibilities in our afterschool program!
