The CAC is made up of parents and staff members who assist and advise the principal in the development, review and revision of the Campus Improvement Plan (CIP); making decisions pertaining to curriculum and school organization; and other topics as brought forward that pertain to the school as a whole.
Meetings are held each month and are open to the public. At each meeting, public comments are allowed with a 3-minute maximum per person speaking. Meetings are held in the Eagles Nest from 6 to 7:15 p.m.

The Akins CAC has 12 parent positions, with 6 positions open for new members each year. Positions are for a 2-year term. Meetings are run by a parent and teacher co-chair, who are elected each May.
