Who can bring pets to the Akins Pet Clinic?
The Akins Pet Clinic is open to all members of the Austin community.

What kinds of pets are welcome?  Feline, canine, ovine, caprine, porcine companions (cats, dogs, sheep, goat, swine or any other animal ex: Birds, reptiles etc).

What services are available at the Akins Pet Clinic?  The following basic grooming services are available: bathing, hair clipping, ear cleaning, nail clipping, grooming, routine vaccinations, and shaving. The clinic also offers an analysis* of the pet. This includes a physical examination, fecal analysis, blood chemistry panel, heartworm testing, and a complete blood count (CBC). These services are grouped into packages that can be chosen. “Spa Days”, “Monthly Exams”, and “Yearly Exams” are also offered. These services and their prices are explained in the services flyer.

What is the cost for the services?  The cost of these services varies with the services selected. Please see the services flyer for specific pricing.

Do I need to bring anything with my pet? YES! You must have a copy of your pet’s current vaccinations. Pets must have their rabies vaccine, if applicable. It is preferred that the pets have all of their shots, including kennel cough. Treats and/or food for the pet may be brought with the pet. No towels or blankets are to accompany the pet unless they are donations. All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier.

How do I schedule an appointment? To schedule an appointment, simply email jennifer.doyle@austinisd.org or call the main school number and ask for the Akins Pet Clinic / Veterinary Sciences.

What time can I drop my pet off and pick it up?  In order to minimize classroom disruptions, pets must be dropped off between 8:00 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. No pets will be accepted after 8:45 a.m. Special drop off times must be approved via email by Mrs. Doyle. When your pet is ready, you will be called to inform you that your pet is ready to be picked from the clinic, or, if you so choose, we can keep your pet at the clinic and you can pick it up between 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. the same day. All pets MUST be picked up by 4:30 p.m. The animal MUST be dropped off at the door by the Lab room at Akins. This is located in the back parking lot behind the Gym and in the portables.

* Akins Pet Clinic is an on-site teaching facility focused on student learning through hands-on experiences. All services are supervised by the instructor. It does not offer diagnosis on analytical testing results. The client is encouraged to consult a veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment, if necessary.
