Akins High School offers a phlebotomy certification program for students who are part of the Social Services Academy.
The Phlebotomy program is a class where students learn the fundamentals of drawing blood. We practice our blood draws on dummy arms and practice many other lab testing procedures. After graduation, the students attend ACC for four days to practice their live blood draws and are then assigned to an clinical rotation an an area lab or clinic. At the conclusion of this internship, they can sit for their phlebotomy certification exam.
