Academy Information Night was a huge success!!!

Akins High School had its annual Academy Information Fair on Feb. 1, 2017. There was a large turnout of potential students and parents. There were more than 25 programs being showcased at this event. The Counseling Dept. also provided 2 mini sessions on graduation plans and endorsements. More than 300 8th graders from Paredes Middle School attended our event.

Akins High School wins $10K from McDonald's

Akins High School received $10,000 from local McDonald’s owners.

The school took part in the franchise’s “lovin’ school spirit” hashtag contest during the fall and came out on top. All McDonald’s operators in the Austin-area are locally owned, which is why they decided to give back to the community where they live and work.

Akins Alumni student gets recognition at the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama

Kassey Rocha is a 2016 Akins graduate and current St. Ed's student. She was in Choir and Art, as well as in Film Studies. Through Film Studies, she had the opportunity to intern with Mexic-Arte's Screen It! program. Mexic-Arte was selected from programs across the country due to their dedication to promoting literacy and cultural awareness. Kassey will be recognized on Tuesday, Nov. 15th when she accepts this award at the White House, presented by Michelle Obama.

PTSA's Loteria Night was a huge hit!!!

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, the PTA hosted their first "Loteria" fundraiser which was a great fundraiser. More than $400 was raised for the PTSA!
Thanks to all the PTSA members that made food and brought drinks and prizes.
The event did not cost PTSA any money. Thanks everyone for your generous donations!

Akins Students get an awesome award!

Akins Students win 2nd place for our youth homelessness civic project at the Capitol and $200 for the Student Resource Room. Students have worked so hard in creating the SRR for peers. Donations have already started to be given at school.
